United have endured a tough season initially under Jose Mourinho and now with Solskjaer at the helm.
The Norwegian oversaw a brilliant start to life at the Red Devils which helped him land the full-time job.
But two wins in 12 have left the club sixth in the Premier League and they will now take part in the Europa League next season.
Fans have been furious with the first-team flops as a result of not playing for the shirt or having their heads turned, with the likes of Paul Pogba and David de Gea attracting attention from other clubs.
This summer is set to be huge for United, who are desperate to get themselves back into contention for titles and cups.
As a result, Old Trafford chief Woodward has a specific plan in action to land the kind of players they want.
According to The Sun, United are only interested in signing young, up and coming talent to bolster their ranks after a series of transfers that had little forward thinking.
Woodward has often operated a sort of copy of Real Madrid’s ‘Galactico’ transfer model, signing the biggest stars to fill the dressing room.
Some of these have included Pogba, Alexis Sanchez, Radamel Falcao, Angel di Maria and Romelu Lukaku.
But arguably only one of those have worked out in Pogba, and there are even question marks surrounding the Frenchman as well.
The latter, Lukaku, is also eyeing a move to Serie A and is not expected to be at Old Trafford much longer.
The Sun have reported that Solskjaer has settled on Lyon hotshot Moussa Dembele to lead the line in place of the Belgian.
The former Celtic striker has been in fine form for the French outfit, scoring 14 league goals alongside Memphis Depay and Bertrand Traore.
Furthermore, a £40m bid is being lined up for Dembele, who would fit the criteria set out by the club in terms of young talent at the age of 22.
As well as Dembele, several other starlets have been touted to make the move to Old Trafford including Declan Rice, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Jadon Sancho.
