Two groups within the Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress have condemned some state lawmakers and support groups for purchasing the Expression of Interest and nomination forms for the state governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, before the party’s primary in July.
The APC groups, Ondo APC Mandate Group and Sunshine Group, made their positions known separately in Abuja and Akure on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
The Convener, Ondo APC Mandate Group, Olugbenga Bojuwomi, said at a media briefing at the APC National Secretariat, Abuja, on Friday, “We don’t expect the national leadership of the party to permit Akeredeolu to contest even the first .
“In fact, if we were during a sane society and therefore the party was working normally, we wouldn’t expect Akeredeolu to still be within the party.”
Also, the Ondo APC Sunshine Group, during a statement on Saturday, described the acquisition of nomination forms for the governor as shameful.
The group said, “There is not any gainsaying the very fact that the physical presence of the House of Assembly and Executive Council’s members at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja wouldn’t add any value to Aketi’s chances of clinching the APC nomination at the forthcoming primary.”
Reacting to the groups’ position, the state Commissioner for Information, Mr Donald Ojogo, described them as clowns.
“It is that the greatest of injustices and unfairness to disallow clowns from having a voice sometimes like this,” he said.
Similarly, the state APC Chairman, Mr Ade Adetimehin, disowned the groups, describing them as mischievous and sponsored.
